NC Voting Qualifications

To vote in North Carolina, you must:

  • Be a U.S. citizen;
  • Live in the county of registration, and have resided there for at least 30 days prior to the date of the election;
  • Be at least 18 years old, or will be by the date of the general election. Sixteen- and seventeen-year-olds may pre-register to vote. Seventeen-year-olds may vote in a primary election if they will be 18 at the time of the general election;
  • Not be incarcerated for a felony conviction. As of July 2022, those with felony convictions who are not incarcerated but are on probation or parole are eligible to vote. For more information, click here.
